Finally received a copy of the police report and have included it below. Thought some of you might like to see the officers' side of the story. Still looking like we're going to trial, so we might have an opportunity to set some of the things straight that they didn't get quite right in that report. Especially loved the part where officer Toro suggested that I pulled some kind of a Mission Impossible maneuver and returned whatever I might have stolen while I was pretending to go get salsa. Yeesh, palm-to-forehead. But then, guess that's what we ought to expect from the Barstow PD. Wonder why they included that detail at all, when it just makes them look like idiots? Considering everything else they lied about and/or got reallyfuckingwrong, obviously doesn't have anything to do with the truth, integrity, or intelligence.
After reading that report, wonder what the hell the DA was thinking when he decided to file charges and prosecute us. Ah, but this wasn't supposed to turn into a big deal. First thing they did was offer us a 'deal'. A little deal. An easy deal. Take the infraction. Pay the fine. Everybody wins. We get off easy, and they get to preserve the facade of unquestionable authority. Oh, and make a little money too. The whole concept of plea deals is fuh-king rotten. Read somewhere that it's sometimes referred to as a rotten carrot. DA must be having second thoughts now though, as the plea deals are looking less and less menacing. Latest was a soft offer yesterday. Wanted to know if we would be willing to waive our rights to sue if they dismissed the charges. Mmmm, no thanks Doc.
